Home Servers

So what’s a home server?

A home server is a computer hooked up to your home network that can automatically backup all your machines on a nightly basis, store your movies, pictures, and music, for any pc in the home to see and use, as well as access your files from anywhere in the world, should you forget to put a movie on your laptop before the flight.

Home servers are becoming a central piece of hardware for homes with multiple computers, or even those that frequently travel. As a home with multiple computers, you can put your files on the server, and access them from any other computer in the home. It can save untold amounts of hard drive storage space on a laptop or desktop, as when a file is not needed, it can be moved to the server and safely stored. Home servers can also back up all the computers in the home on a nightly basis, so that if your computer’s hard drive ever failed, you will never lose more than a day of work, and or memories.

If you travel often, you know how frustrating it is to realize you forgot to move a file from your desktop, to the laptop before you left. Even if you forgot to put the file on the home server, you can still get access to it. Just log onto the server from an internet page, remote into your home computer, and move the file to the server, and you can then download it to the laptop with ease.

Home servers are truly amazing as they can allow you to have a new sense of peace that your data is being backed up routinely, and even if you forget to back up once, it will let you know. Home servers are easy to use, easy to maintain, and once you have one, you’ll never want to be without it.
